Motown is the city of Detroit.
The best of that city, musically, IMHO, was the MC5. I don't think they released anything on the label named after the city.

A big song in the Northern Soul scene was a choon called `I'm on my way' by Dean parrish.... they booked him to play at the Wigan casino in the 70's and were amazed when a small white New Yorker turned up at the club...
